Our Strip Maps are quite unusual
If you are driving anywhere in Florida on an unfamiliar expressway, you are going to love these strip maps. They provide the local knowledge which most people can only acquire by living in the area or frequently driving the stretch you are on.
Here is a summary of what you will find on our maps:
- Being 25 mile-per-page, the maps give you a sense of "pacing" which seems to make the trip go much faster. Many people find that "driving by the page" (about 1/2 hour for each) breaks the monotony of their journey. It's also great for estimating the time a given route will take.
- Colored coded "road speeds" give you an excellent idea of what is ahead. You know a map page with green/white stripped (70 mph) road is going to be faster than one with yellow or red zones.
- Knowing the number of lanes and where a road might change from 3 to 2 lanes (or vice versa) is invaluable. You will now be able to prepare for traffic lane merges . . . especially helpful for RV travelers.
- Notice those brown colored roads running parallel to the expressway? If the traffic gets heavy, it's really helpful knowing where you can get off the main road . . . and where you can re-join. Especially useful under emergency evacuation conditions.
- Many people still remember exits by their "old" exit number, so we have provided both - "Old" and "New" numbers. Soon, Florida DOT will be removing the "old" numbers from the actual exits throughout the road system.
- Just like other states, the Florida Highway Patrol has its favorite spots for setting up radar traps. We show these on our maps with a police car symbol.
- Welcome Centers and Rest Areas are highlighted on the side of each map so they are easy to spot ahead.
- We hope you never have to evacuate your familiar home area under emergency conditions . . . but if you do, each map shows the radio frequency of the local Evacuation Route Information radio station. You can stay tuned no matter how far you have to go.
- All expressway exits are shown. We even show the gas, food and lodging facilities available at each . . . and even which side of the road they are on.
Gas Stations - we show which: sell diesel as well as gas; have a mechanic on duty; are open 24 hours.
Food Outlets & Restaurants - we show those with outdoor or indoor play areas.
Lodgings - we show those accepting pets.
All Exit Facilities - For RVers, we indicate gas stations with wide swings into their pumps and Restaurants/lodgings with large vehicle parking.
Shopping - wherever possible, we indicate if there is a Wal-Mart, K-Mart, grocery store or pharmacy at the exit.
- Other exit information indicated on our maps includes the presence of Police, Medical and Veterinarian facilities, and coin car washes.
These are just a few of the items highlighted on our maps - all designed to make your journey so much easier for you.
Sample Map
Reproduced below is an actual 25 mile map from our book. This section of Interstate-75 lies just north of the Manatee River at Bradenton, between mile markers 222 and 247. At mile 228, I-75 is joined by the southern end of the St. Petersburg route, I-275. There are rest areas on both sides of I-75 between miles 237 and 238.
