Special Deals for Vacationers
Let's face it, would you rather be digging snow out of your driveway this winter, wearing a heavy coat and awkward boots . . . or wandering along a sandy, palm fringed beach in your shorts, letting the sea wash between your toes?       I know what I would rather be doing.
To encourage you to head to the Sunshine State this winter, a number of local tourism offices have met with the hotel, motel and restaurant managers in their areas and put together special deals and discounts just for you.

One of the best places to find state-wide bargains is at the Florida Welcome Centers - just inside the Florida state line on all major routes. Motel and restaurant discount books can always be found here. If the Center office is closed, check out the paper boxes near the vending machines.

FLA USA - the State's Visit Florida official tourism site invites you to send for its official Florida Vacation Guide. Many of the book's adverts include discounts and "deals." This year, the State has added a special section to its website with hundreds of money saving opportunities.

Florida State Parks

Florida has some of the finest state parks in the country. Some were built in the 1920s when the Federal Government created the Civilian Conservation Corps (the CCC) as a "make work" program for unemployed young men, others have been acquired over time to protect some of Florida's beautiful rivers and beaches.

We will take you to the Florida State Park home page . . . from where you can select and have a "virtual visit" with any of these wonderful facilities.

National Parks in Florida
When you consider that North America's first permanent settlement was founded in Florida's St. Augustine in 1565, it's no wonder that the State has a rich history.

From Ponce de Leon's landing to Hernando de Soto's explorations, from the National Park seashore preserves of the Gulf Islands & Cape Canaveral to the internationally unique Everglades, there are many invaluable Florida sites the U.S. National Park Service has protected for all to enjoy.

STORE LOCATORS for
                              K-Mart and Wal-Mart

These major stores chains do not provide web pages for each store. They provide locator pages which allow you to enter your town or city; the location of the closest store is then displayed. Each chain specifically identifies their super stores.

K-Mart Store locator page
Hint: unless you want a specific town/city location, type the state name only into the Locator Page, and click on "submit." A map will appear showing the center of the state; the addresses of the closest K-Marts will appear underneath. You can then click on the borders to move the map in any direction - the addresses of the closest K-Marts will change as the map moves.

Wal-Mart Store locator page
You can search by ZIP code, state, city or address. You can even find Wal-Mart stores within a given number of miles from the town/city you specify. The page lists the stores and then provides a map with all the store locations shown.
