Special Deals for Vacationers
Let's face it, would you rather be digging snow out of your driveway this winter, wearing a heavy coat and awkward boots . . . or wandering along a sandy, palm fringed beach in your shorts, letting the sea wash between your toes?       I know what I would rather be doing.
To encourage you to head to the Sunshine State this winter, a number of local tourism offices have met with the hotel, motel and restaurant managers in their areas and put together special deals and discounts just for you.

Go Miami Card This valuable card provides unlimited admission to Miami's top 25+ tours and attractions. The perfect solution for Miami-bound vacationers, the card's low purchase price will save you many $$$ over the cost of individual attraction admissions. In addition, when you purchase the card you receive a full colored guidebook and savings of up to 20% on shopping and dining throughout the city.

Hotels, Motels and Resort Lodging

Arguably, the state of Florida has more available accommodation for its visitors, than any other state of the Union . . . and these can range from a simple Kampground Of America (KOA) cabin to a full service resort. Here we offer some alternatives for this section of the "Sunshine State."

  Pelican Beach Resort (Ft. Lauderdale).
Without a doubt, this is my favorite "home-from-home" in all of Florida. Of course, the building and amenities are wonderful . . . but it is the staff which makes a stay here so much fun. It's a family business and just about everyone you meet at the resort is either a member of the Kruse family, or just about to "marry in." They are such friendly folk that very quickly, you feel that you have become part of the this warm group of people.

Just a couple of points about the Pelican's facilities. Unlike many other Ft. Lauderdale hotel resorts which advertise that they are "next to the ocean," the Pelican really is on the beach. You can get up from your easy chair on the ocean side veranda, walk down several steps and onto the private sands of Pelican Beach.

Another "on property" facility I enjoy is the "Lazy River," which runs around the heated swimming pool and deck. I can't think of a better way to spend a Florida afternoon than to lie back on a floating raft and let the warm waters of the continuously moving river carry you beneath palm trees, past the poolside bar and back to the place you started . . . so you can do it all over again. It's so relaxing, I often doze as we meander the "River."

Sailfish Marina and Resort (Palm Beach Shores)

Shelborne Beach Resort (Miami South Beach)

Shopping Malls and Outlet Centers
Like many other "Snowbirds," I enjoy trips to Florida shopping malls . . . especially if I know that snow is swirling in the north.

There's a perverse pleasure in being able to leave your car (no heavy boots, coats, snow shovel or ice scrapper) in the warm, sunny parking area and heading into the air-conditioned mall.

Fashions are always "summery" - even in January and everything always appears clean and fresh.

Here are some of the retail shopping malls (and let's not forget the factory outlets or antique malls) in this area of Florida.

N Miami Beach,   -  Bal Harbour Village - Bulgari, Cartier, Chanel, Gucci,
Prada, Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue
    Florida City,   -  Prime Outlets
Ft Lauderdale,   -  Aventura Mall - one of Florida's largest malls, more than 250 stores.
    Ft Lauderdale,   -  Sawgrass Mills
Miami,   -  Dolphin Mall - a large outlet mall opening in March, 2001

Golf Courses and Facilities

The sun . . . golf . . . fresh air . . . Florida. They all seem to go together making the "Sunshine State" a golfers paradise.

Here you'll find links (pun definitely intended) to the area's golf courses and facilities. Enjoy!
